Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas are set for a showdown on the second day of action at the ATP Finals in London in what is a highly anticipated clash between two of the best prospects in tennis right now.
Medvedev owns a commanding 5-0 lead in their Head 2 Head rivalry though despite that, even though they have only played twice this year and both times, the Russian has given him a real run for his money.
In April, they faced off in Monaco and it was Medvedev who came through in a tough 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 victory over the Greek ace to reach the Quarter-Finals which marked only the second time he claimed a top ten win.
They then met with both players towards the peak of their powers in Shanghai with Medvedev emerging as a 7-6, 7-5 semi-final winner so overall despite the record, it will likely go close.
“Hopefully, we're going to have a lot of matches to come throughout our careers, in the later stages of the tournament,” Medvedev said. “Hopefully we can have a lot of great matches to come.”
Tsitsipas like Medvedev is appearing in London for the first time and after winning at the Next Gen
ATP Finals last year, he is glad of the transition.
“I am very proud of myself to have put in a lot of effort and work to get here,” said Tsitsipas. “It’s a great transition from the Next Gen ATP Finals to here, both great events. It’s great being part of such a prestigious event with a long history in our sport."
