It is Day Two at the ATP Finals which are currently taking place in London and sparks are set to fly when World No.1 Rafael Nadal takes on defending champion Alexander Zverev in what very much is the tie of the day.
Nadal enters into his tie with the German with a brilliant 5-0 Head 2 Head record against him and he currently has the Year End ranking to potentially keep hold of this week; with a good run in London, he would go a long way to doing that.
He has never added the prestigious tournament to his roll of honour though; that will be one of his main quests this week and carrying a 51-6 record into this tournament despite having to withdraw from Paris with an abdominal injury will be a great confidence booster for the Spaniard.
“I have good hopes to be 100 per cent ready for Monday,” Nadal said. “It's a tournament [where] you will face the top guys since the beginning, so you need to be 100 per cent ready."
Zverev ready to retain title in London
Zverev hasn't had the greatest year in his career since winning last year in London; but will hope that he can get it right when it matters in the season ending event.
He came in as seventh seed and as a result has gone somewhat under the radar compared to some other rising names such as Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas; he will hope to use that to his advantage against Nadal.
“As everyone probably knows I didn’t have the best season I wanted to have, but I’m still top eight in the world and made London,” said Zverev. “A lot of people would dream of that, so being with these guys is an unbelievable honour and I wanted to come back here and give myself a chance to retain my title. I want to play some good matches as well.”
Despite not winning that much since London, his form has been there and he reached the final at the Shanghai Masters last month; he also defeated Federer, a good game is incoming later today.
