Daniil Medvedev booked a place in his 2nd Grand Slam final with a comfortable win over Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Australian Open.
It was a spectacular showing from Daniil Medvedev who cruised to a straight-sets victory over Stefanos Tsitsipas. It took him just over two hours to defeat the Greek 6-4 6-2 7-5. The start of the match looked harmless enough as Tsitsipas was able to counter Medvedev rather easily but once the Russian warmed up it was game over. Tsupupitsipas did not play terrible but his lack of energy was clearly visible in rallies especially the longer they went on. Medvedev was hitting balls with much more power and he dominated Tsitsipas from the baseline. Too many mistakes in the first set cost Stefanos and the Russian was able to win it 6-4.
After that, it was mainly downhill for Tsitsipas who struggled to parry Medvedev in any sort of rally with the Russian completely dominating. He hit 14 winners with only 4 unforced errors not allowing a single break point en route to the 6-2 2nd set victory. Medvedev continued his stellar play at the start of the 3rd as well breaking Tsitsipas early to take a 2-0 lead. At 3-2, Tsitsipas got his first breakpoints and conveyed the 2nd one after a rare error by Medvedev to tie it at 3-3.
Tsitsipas had chances after that but Medvedev saved two break points to remain in the set. He then settled back in, started to dominate points once more and broke Tsitsipas at 5-5 to take a 6-5 lead. He then closed it out with a strong service game 7-5.
