Naomi Osaka wrote an essay for Time Magazine and in it, she thanked individuals who supported her following the French Open and one of them was the Duchess of Sussex.
Naomi Osaka has not played ever since pulling out of the French Open in May but she is set to make her return later in the month for the Olympic Games. The Japanese player took a break from tennis to focus on her mental health which troubled her in the past.
In an essay written for Time Magazine, Osaka spoke about many topics on her mind and she also used the opportunity to thank several individuals who reached out to her and offered their support. She wrote:
"I want to thank everyone who supported me. There are too many to name, but I want to start with my family and friends, who have been amazing. There is nothing more important than those relationships."
She also wrote:
"I also want to thank those in the public eye who have supported, encouraged and offered such kind words. Michelle Obama, Michael Phelps, Steph Curry, Novak Djokovic, Meghan Markle, to name a few."
Osaka enjoys a lot of fan support and public eye support despite many tennis colleagues being rather reserved when the situation unfolded. Most of them underlined media obligations as a fundamental part of the sport.
