It was an all-Croatian doubles final at the
Olympic Games as Mektic and Pavic won gold for Croatia by defeating Cilic and Dodig 6-4 3-6 10-6.
The best doubles pairing in the world continued to dominate in 2021 as they reached yet another final and once again they won it. Their opponents were their Croatian compatriots Cilic and Dodig who made a surprise run to the final. In a great match that went the distance, Mektic and Pavic were able to confirm that they are indeed the best.
In the biggest match of their career, they proved the better pairing and more composed in key moments. They jumped out to a lead in the first set and held it for the majority of the set winning it 6-4. In the 2nd set, they had a slight dip in focus towards the end of the set and Cilic and Dodig were able to snatch it 6-3.
In the match tiebreak, it was an all-out dominant performance by the number one ranked pairing as they were simply unstoppable. Jumping out to a 6-0 lead they did enough to close out the match which they did by winning the match tiebreak with 10-6.
