Felix
Auger-Aliassime said that he maintains a positive mindset despite the injuries
and a difficult 2023.
After the
2023
French Open, the 22-year-old tennis player dropped out of the top 10 after
9 months and is now considerably behind world No. 10 Frances Tiafoe, who has
3130 points compared to Aliassime's 2770 points.
In the last
year, he hasn't achieved good results and has been dealing with injury issues.
In Grand Slams this year, he reached the fourth round at the Australian Open
but was eliminated in the first round at both the French Open and
Wimbledon,
suffering defeats against Fabio Fognini and Michael Mmoh, respectively.
Felix spoke
about maintaining a positive mentality despite the challenges he is facing
compared to the previous year:
"It’s
obvious that this hasn’t been the season that I would have hoped for so far.
Luckily for me, it’s not over. In the end I’m OK mentally. I’m positive about
it all. I’ve had time to be home and train and try to get better with the knee
and kind of look at, you know, where it’s coming from and also resolve that
problem in order for the future."
Indeed, the
upcoming weeks will be crucial for
Felix Auger-Aliassime to maintain his
position in the upper ranks of the rankings. He has to secure good results as
he defends a significant number of points from his past performances. This
includes the semifinals at the Los Cabos tournament and quarterfinal
appearances at the Masters 1000 events, the
Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open.
"If I
can bring that physicality back on the court, I know that the results will
start coming a little by little or maybe even quicker because I know myself
more and more through the years. Mentally, of course, there’s ups and
downs."
"We
don’t feel as confident every week. But I feel stable mentally, I feel in a
good place. I’m very focused and driven and I feel that I’m confident in my
ability. I know I’ll be ready mentally to play, you know, big matches and to
play for important titles."
The world
No. 12 is currently the highest-ranked player from Canada, with the world No.
22
Denis Shapovalov behind him. His last match was at Wimbledon, and he is now
preparing to compete in the ATP 500 Washington Open in the week of July 31st
