Veteran tennis star
Milos Raonic is set to make a return to
the
Davis Cup as he will be representing Team Canada in the tie against South
Korea.
The tie is set to take place in February and as
per the latest report, the 33-year-old will be replacing Denis Shapovalov who recently
announced that he will not be available for the competition.
“Representing Canada has and always will be a priority of
mine, and I have so many great Davis Cup memories in my career already,” said Shapovalov
in a release recently. “However, having missed a substantial amount of time
last season with an injury, I am now at the beginning of my comeback.
“I need to focus on finding my rhythm again and making sure
that I can get back to my best level as fast as possible. Best of luck to the
team. I know the guys have what it takes to get us through to the group stage.”
It will be interesting to see how Raonic will perform in the
competition as he will be joining Team Canada after having a rather below-par
outing in the ongoing Australian Open where he was knocked out of the competition
after having to retire in the first-round tie against Australia’s Alex de Minaur.
