Rafael Nadal is set to make his return at the City Open in Washington where he will face
Jack Sock in the 2nd round of the event.
Nadal, who has not played since the French Open, attracted a lot of attention from fans by appearing at the Citi Open. The Spaniard was closely followed by large crowds at every practice session. The schedule of the Citi Open in the calendar makes it difficult for top stars to attend and they seldom do.
At the event, Nadal also spoke to the media ahead of his opener vs Jack Sock where he was asked about skipping Wimbledon. On that he said:
“Playing in Washington allows me to be on the Tour one week before than what I do usually for this part of the season. But missing Wimbledon, I think that’s the right thing to do. The
decision I think is the right one. Super happy to be here. [The]
tournament organisation is doing amazing.”
As noted before Nadal will open this event against Jack Sock in R2 which will be a good test for Nadal who has not played in a while. The Spaniard looked sharp in practice session as you can see below.
