Andy Murray came very close to defeat against Daniel Taro in Indian Wells but the Brit was able to battle back 1-6 6-2 6-4.
This match, like many others at this year's Indian Wells, was played under quite a bit of wind. That did not work well with Murray initially as the Brit entered the match quite timid. Taro was playing superb tennis going for his shots and being extra aggressive. He was hitting the lines rather well and had over 10 winners in the first set.
Murray did very little right en route to the 1-6 defeat in the opening set. Taro eventually came back to Earth as Murray was able to take control of the match in the 2nd set. The Japanese player started missing his shots much more and Murray generally read his game rather well. He moved better and went to the net a bit more and that worked.
After winning the 2nd set with 6-2, Murray was expected to easily cruise past Taro in the 2nd set. However, that didn't happen The Japanese player once again played superb tennis early breaking Murray and taking an early lead. Eventually, his play once again deteriorated and a couple of cheap mistakes allowed Murray to come back into the match.
The crucial game came at 4-4 when Murray saved a break point to take a 5-4 lead after which he was able to close it out with 6-4.
