Former World No.1 Andy Murray will be involved in one of the first glimpses of tennis action since the worldwide lockdown due to the Coronavirus pandemic next month.
Organised by his brother Jamie, he will form part of a lineup which includes
Kyle Edmund,
Dan Evans as well as the Murray brothers and is aptly named Schroders
Battle of the Brits.
The tournament will aim to raise at least £100,000 for the NHS; it will feature not only singles but doubles with Amazon Prime also set to broadcast it worldwide over the course of six days.
“The last few months have been incredibly challenging times for everyone and we see this event as our way of giving back,”
Jamie Murray told Associated Press.
“A lot of work has gone in to make sure this could happen; we are very excited to be able to bring an action-packed week of tennis; while raising valuable funds for NHS heroes to say thank you for the amazing work they have done.”
“The LTA is looking forward to bringing tennis back into people’s lives this summer and are excited about events like this inspiring fans to get involved in our sport and pick up a racket,” Scott Lloyd, CEO of the Lawn Tennis association said in a statement.
As well, the LTA are launching a British Tour during July which will feature four tournaments taking place in the space of a month.
Those events will be open to the country’s 16 highest ranked players in the men’s and women’s game with prize money also up for grabs and so the Battle of the Brits will act as a precursor to this action.
