The match was a very closely contested one that lasted over two hours despite the abbreviated format. It saw the Italian play a much better match than yesterday and that was reflected in the result. Gaston did not play too well today and his tactics had quite a few holes in it. The Frenchman mostly tried to keep points short often times going towards the net.
It did not prove too successful early as Musetti was able to cover the court rather well. Even so, neither was able to break their opponent so we ended up in the tiebreak. In it, Musetti played the crucial rallies a bit better ultimately winning it 7-3. The 2nd set was another closely contested one as both players had chances this time but once again neither broke.
In the tiebreak Musetti once again played the crucial rallies better and Gaston's rush to the next tactics did not work out. In the 3rd set, Gaston switched it up a bit. He started playing riskier and that proved crucial in winning the 3rd set with 4-2. He finished off that set by saving break points and converting his own. The next set featured once again very good play by both.
Gaston had a very good chance to close out the set at 3-2 when he had two set points but failed. Musetti had a match point in the tiebreak at 6-4. He served a double fault and that brought the Frenchman back into it and he took it with 9-7. The final set was decided pretty much by one point. It was a deuce at 3-2 for Musetti and one ball wide sealed the match for the Italian.
