Rafael Nadal and
Diego Schwartzman were impressive in their
Roland Garros 2nd round matches and move on with victories in straight sets.
Rafael Nadal continued his Roland Garros adventure with a stunning performance against Mackenzie McDonald. Americans usually don't fare well on clay and when faced against a clay court specialist their chances of victory evaporate quickly. Today was just an example of that as the American was completely overmatched. He surrendered his serve twice in the first set en route to a 6-1 defeat. Nadal continued his terror in the 2nd set as well winning it 6-0.
The American tried his hardest but as soon as the rallies started Nadal was hard to stop. The final set was a bit better by the American but a slight drop in Nadal's level was also noticeable. All in all, it was a strong performance by Nadal against a lesser opponent on clay and he will be happy with that. He didn't use too much energy or spend too much time on the court.
He will be joined in the next round by Diego Schwartzman who overcame Lorenzo Giustino in straight sets. The Argentinian is continuing to look very formidable on clay as he continues to win with ease. It took a little over two hours to win and the end result was 6-1 7-5 6-0. The Italian played a strong 2nd set but ultimately he didn't have enough to do any more damage today. Schwartzman moves on at an event he is hoping to go deep into. So far it's looking likely with the way he played.
