Despite the new year not even officially starting, Nadal and talks about retirement from tennis are already in the news despite him shutting it down repeatedly.
Rafael Nadal and retirement talks are simply a reality which he will have to face any time he speaks to the press. While understanding of that, the Spaniard is very keen on dismissing them as he did recently when he said that he's not thinking about it. He really shouldn't despite some poor results lately.
In his own words, he's stil a pro athlete and hopes to remains so for a little longer:
"I'm still a pro-athlete and I wish it lasts. I put effort so that it lasts as much as possible. Retirement starts the day you start as there's one day less to reach it. But I'm not at that point, I work every day with the right energy to not be at that point yet. It will come though."
