Rafael Nadal was no less sensational than Novak Djokovic in his
Monte-Carlo Masters debut racing past Federico Delbonis.
It was the usual start for Nadal at the Monte-Carlo Masters as he cruised past Federico Delbonis in straight sets. Delbonis is a solid clay player but against the king of clay, there is no solution so Nadal quickly took control of the match playing his signature style. Game after game passed with Nadal looking more lethal than en route to the 6-1 first set finish.
It marked the 3rd year in a row that Nadal won the first set he played at the Monte-Carlo Masters with 6-1. The star of the 2nd set went fairly similar to the first set with Nadal once again taking an early break. At 3-0 Delbonis somehow carved out two break points but Nadal saved both of them.
Delbonis would get another break point in the same game which he ended up using. The Argentinian played his best tennis during those moments in the match but Nadal was still able to find solutions. After squandering two break points he would break Delbonis once more to take a 5-2 lead.
He closed it out with 6-2 in the 2nd set ending a solid effort from Nadal who looked as good as ever on clay. It took him a bit over an hour to move on and the Spaniard will be glad he started his campaign with a straight-sets victory.
