Rafael Nadal has been playing in Acapulco for a while now. He first started coming here when the tournament was still played on clay a couple of years ago. Despite the change to hard courts Nadal keeps coming back to the delight of Acapulco crowd. It's not a coincidence because Nadal spoke to the media ahead of the tournament and admitted of feeling like home here.
His opponent last night was Kwon and Nadal had no issues against him. The end result was 6-2 6-1 but the match took 91 minutes despite the dominant result. It was a dominant display by Rafa but it didn't go totally without trouble. In the 1st set, Rafa was amazing on his own serve never allowing too much but even so, he had to save 3 breakpoints.
Kwon struggled immensely on his serve which isn't his strongest suit. That allowed Nadal to be aggressive from the get-go and attack him which brought him success. The 2nd set was a bit better for the Korean despite losing by a bigger margin. He got more comfortable with Nadal and he played better on his own serve. But Nadal was also better, particularly when receiving. ON his own serve he was a bit worse having to save 5 breakpoints. He did so successfully and cruised to a dominant victory.
Nadal continues his good run in Acapulco as he is eager to win it this time after losing in the final last year.
