The Chilean, fueled by the support from his home crowd, managed to outlast Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-2 0-6 7-6(4) to secure his spot in the quarterfinals.
Following a spectacular display of tennis by the young Spaniard in the second set, Garin managed to break Davidovich Fokina twice to serve for the match at 5-4 and 6-5 in the final set. However, the Spaniard displayed grit in breaking back and extended the match to a final set tiebreak. It was here that nerves came into play, as the Next Gen star double-faulted twice to hand the match to the Santiago native.
After claiming titles in Cordoba and Rio, Garin is on fire and looks like the man to beat. He next faces Brazilian wildcard Thiago Seyboth Wild, who upset fifth-seeded Argentine Juan Ignacio Londero 7-6(7) 6-4 in an hour and 45 minutes. The 19-year old won 86% of points on his first serve and saved all three break points faced to reach his first ATP Tour-level quarterfinal.
Third seed Albert Ramos-Vinolas defeated Peruvian lucky loser Juan Pablo Varillas 7-6(3) 6-2 in an hour and 39 minutes. After losing to 16-year old Carlos Alcaraz at the Rio Open, the Spaniard is making a push to claim his third career ATP title (Bastad 2016, Gstaad 2019).
Ramos-Vinolas will meet eighth-seed Thiago Monteiro in the quarterfinals. The Brazilian dispatched of Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena 6-1 6-4 to reach his second ATP quarterfinal of the season. Monteiro fell to Portugal's Pedro Sousa in the quarterfinals of the Argentina Open.
