The Mexico City native left the home crowd ecstatic following her quarterfinal victory over Tamara Zidansek at the Abierto Mexicano Telcel in Acapulco. Displaying the heart that has endeared her to many, Zarazua prevailed 6-2 3-6 6-2 in an hour and 45 minutes.
After being granted a wildcard entry to the event, the World No.270 has surpassed all expectations to reach her first career WTA Tour-level semifinal. This includes an upset victory in the first round over top seed Sloane Stephens en route to the quarterfinals.
Zarazua faces the winner of all-teenage battle between Russian Anastasia Potapova and Canadian Leylah Fernandez.
Great Britain's Heather Watson overcame a second set slump to defeat American Christina McHale 6-3 1-6 6-1 in an hour and 52 minutes. After missing the second half of the 2019 season due to injury, Watson has looked very impressive this week.
Watson will face China's Lin Zhu, who breezed past compatriot Xiyu Wang 6-2 6-2. The sixth seed required just an hour to overcome her good friend, and is yet to drop a set during this tournament.
