Rafael Nadal defeated
Andrey Rublev in the second match of the first day at the 2020
ATP Finals in London.
Although, the experienced Spaniard is world number 2 and added his 20th Grand Slam title this year, he was not that big of a favourite in his opening match at the 2020 ATP Finals. The reason was simple, he was facing Russian youngster, Andrey Rublev who is having the best season of his career. Rublev has won 5 ATP titles this year and wants to add another in London.
However, he will face a difficult task as he has a very difficult group. Both players started with a solid play on their service games. That was until the 6th game, when Nadal converted his second breakpoint to get the 4-2 lead in the first set. He didn't lose that then, to win the first set 6-3 and get a comfortable lead in the match.
In the second set, the Spaniard continued in a great rhythm and started the set with a break after converting the third breakpoint of the second set. Rublev didn't get any breakpoints during the match, and so that resulted into comfortable victory of Rafael Nadal 6-3, 6-4.
