Rafael Nadal was superb in his match against Michael Mmoh in the 2nd round of the Australian Open but winning in three sets is what makes him the happiest.
It took him just under two hours to win his 2nd round match against Michael Mmoh and for Nadal that was great news in his own worst. He had 40 winners and won a stunning 15/16 net points en route to the 6-1 6-4 6-2 victory. After the match he said:
“I always try to be better [than the previous match]. Sometimes [I am] better, sometimes not. I think tonight has been a positive evening for me, winning in straight sets. [It is] great news, for everything.”
Nadal has missed all matches of the ATP CUP due to some injury issues he experienced but he has looked superb at the Open so far. He spoke recently about wanting to keep matches short in order to give himself more time to recover and he certainly did that against Mmoh.
In R3 he is set to play against Norrie who has played very good tennis to start the year. Nadal himself said so much saying that he was impressed with what he saw:
“[Norrie] won two good matches. Winning against Evans… [who] came to the tournament winning the week before. He has experience on the Tour already. [It is] gonna be the toughest test, without a doubt. I need to be playing at high level if I want to keep having chances to be through. And I am looking forward to try to make that happen.”
Nadal will be looked to keep that one in straight sets as well but as he said it will be a very tough test against the Brit who has arguably played the best tennis of his career at the Open.
