Nadal makes 3rd set comeback to win against Popyrin in straight sets

Nadal almost lost the 3rd set but he heroically came back to win the match in straight sets against Popyrin.

Rafael Nadal started off his Roland Garros campaign with a straight-sets win over Alexei Popyrin 6-3 6-2 7-6(3). Poyprin came into the match with a very brave attitude and held his own for the better part of the first set. However midway through it Nadal figured out a way to break the Australian's massive serve taking the opening set 6-3.

Nadal was even better in the 2nd set taking an early break and never looking back. Popyrin looked out of the match mentally and he made too many errors which is a problem against Nadal. In the 3rd set, the Australian calmed down a bit and decided to go all out playing extremely aggressive tennis.

Nadal withstood the aggression fairly well but in the end, Popyrin was able to take the break after several brilliant rallies. He served for the set at 5-3 but Nadal, the warrior that he is, found a way to crawl back into the match. Popyrin had two set points in the 3rd but failed to use either.

Clearly rattled by the loss of serve, Popyrin started forcing the issue a bit too much but he was able to break point to take a 6-5 lead. In the end it was settled in the tiebreak with Nadal winning it 7-3.
