After withdrawing from Indian Wells, Miami, Monte-Carlo and Barcelona,
Rafael Nadal will not play in another home tournament in the run-up to Roland Garros either with
Madrid Open now off the cards.
Being played between April 24 - May 7, 2023, it remained one of the final hopes for match practice for the great Spaniard ahead of an attempt to seal a 15th Roland Garros title.
But now it will be firmly Rome or bust for Nadal albeit with further concerning news.
Speaking in a video in Spanish to announce his withdrawal, he said he was initially told it would heal in 6-8 weeks and now he is entering his 14th week and will now start a new treatment.
The race to Roland Garros is still firmly on but with another bump in the road.
