It was not long ago that
Rafael Nadal never left the top 10 in almost 20 years but now he's out of the top 100 after losing 2000 points from Roland Garros.
Rafael Nadal won last year's Roland Garros event which gave him 2000 points. All of those points are now gone and as a result of it, the Spaniard dropped his rankings. He's now out of the top 100 and likely to fall even more once the points from Wimbledon and the US Open come off. The last points he earned were at the ATP Finals and once they go away, Nadal won't have any more points left. It's likely going to be his lowest rank ever since he became a professional tennis player.
All of that has to do with the hip injury that has left him out of action since the Australian Open this year and likely until the Australian Open next year. The Spaniard announced this year that 2024 will be his last on Tour which will make it a sad one for all tennis fans.
Historical Rankings
The Spaniard made his way into the top 10 fairly quickly once he became a professional tennis player. He's been able to hold that ranking for close to two decades never dropping out until recently. It happened earlier this year ending an incredible streak that almost seems supernatural. Yes, he's now outside of the top 100 again, something that didn't happen as well in almost two decades. It's the first time since 2003 that he's not ranked inside the top 100 but his rankings won't stop dipping. He'll fall out of the top 200, then 300, then 400 and likely 500 as well.
It's unforunate but it's the reality of his career coming to an end. Not this year though, next year.
