Rafael Nadal never left the top 10 since he entered it but it's likely going to happen after the Indian Wells this year which will be the first time since 2005.
Nadal entered the top 10 in 2005 and he never left since then. It's been 18 long years with the mark an absolute record that likely won't ever be broken. Him leaving comes as a direct consequence of his incredible run last year. He won an event before the Australian Open last year which he didn't defend this year. The Australian Open trophy he got last year wasn't defended either and he won't play at the Indian Wells Masters due to the injury.
He was a finalist last year so he'll drop those points as well. The likelihood of him leaving the top 10 following the event are high and it will end the incredible streak. The withdrawal wasn't something that surprised anybody as he was spotted practicing on clay already. The consequence of him leaving the top 10 will be tougher draws, as he likely won't be seeded at all the major events he will attend.

It’s not totally sure, but Rafael Nadal very, very likely to leave the top 10 for the first time since 2005 (incredible!!!!) after Indian Wells. We will have him with lower seedings (and no byes!) floating in the clay tournaments draws. Crazy .
