Rafael Nadal is unsure whether he'll ever reach the level needed to be world number one again as he falls short once more.
Nadal had a chance to become world number one again but he did not win enough matches at the
ATP Finals to do just that. He lost both matches at the ATP Finals ensuring that Alcaraz will finish the year as world number one.
He never had it as a goal either because at his age it's really tough to keep up the high level for the entire year and avoid injuries and both are needed to get number one:
"I mean, I don't think I forget how to play tennis, how to be strong enough mentally. I just need to recover all these positive feelings and all this confidence and all this strong mentality that I need to be at the level that I want to be. And I don't know if I'm going to reach that level again. But what I don't have any doubt, that I'm going to die for it."
He's not looking too much ahead but when asked about Australia, he said:
"What can happen in Australia? I don't know. Remain a month and a half. What can I do to give myself a positive chances to have a good season next year?"
