The National Bank Open in Montreal and Toronto is coming to a close with the semifinal day featuring
Daniil Medvedev,
Stefanos Tsitsipas,
John Isner and more.
Only four players remain in the ATP and WTA draws of the National Bank Open. Two on each side will contest the final of the event for a chance to win a 1000 series event. On the men's side, we will start at 21:00 CET with Stefanos Tsitispas taking on
Reilly Opelka. Both players played well at this event with Tsitsipas looking especially strong.
The Greek won their lone meeting so after albeit it was a retirement at the end of the first set by Opelka. If the Greek has a good day returning he should be favoured, if not, things might get dicey. The other ATP semifinal will take place many hours after the first one as Medvedev will take on Isner at 02:00 CET. Medvedev smashed Isner the last time they played and will be favoured once again.
On the WTA side of the event, things will get underway at 19:00 CET. It will be top seed
Aryna Sabalenka taking on
Karolina Pliskova. A match between two hard hitters should make for some spectacular rallies and points. A pretty close match if both players play their best which should go to three sets. All 3 of their previous ones went to three with Sabalenka winning two.
The 2nd semifinal will start at 00:00 CET and it will feature
Jessica Pegula taking on
Camila Giorgi. Neither player played in a semifinal before and neither reached a WTA 1000 event final. Both enjoy smashing the ball hard and both will not waiver from that tactic. Should be fun as Pegula leads the H2H 2-0.
