Karolina Pliskova has endured a very tough start to the 2021 season which saw her slip outside the top 10 of the rankings. The Czech player who was once No. 2. on the rankings had good performances from time to time but it no consistency in her game.
A perfect example was the Rome Masters where she played great to reach the final only to lose in it 0-6 0-6 in about 45 minutes. Her breakthrough came at Wimbledon when she finally played a great event from start to finish. She is doing the same in Montreal and they reason in her own words is:
"I really improved my game, especially [at the] end of the first set. Of course, in the second set, I think I did a good job, good points there, much better serving than in the first set."
Pliskova was hard to deal with once her shots started hitting and Sorribes Tormo lacked the power to hit through the really good defence of Pliskova. Power won't be a problem for Sabalenka who is the next opponent for Pliskova. It's a great matchup and will get underway at 19:00 CET today. We will have a report once the match finishes so make sure to come back.
