Stefanos Tsitsipas found his best tennis in Toronto and the Greek is relieved to be playing well once more.
Stefanos Tsitsipas faced
Casper Ruud in the National Bank Open Toronto quarterfinal and the Greek ended the 13-match winning streak of the Norwegian. Tsitsipas was impressive from the get-go never making fans doubt about his 6-1 6-4 victory.
After the match he quite happy about his performance saying:
”It is very nice to see myself perform at this level. I was sticking close to the baseline and coming in, taking the ball early. It was my intention from the very beginning, and it worked perfectly."
Ruud felt the full force of the aggressive play the Greek employed and while he handled it better over time it was too much to overcome. Tsitsipas had ac lear intention in mind when he employed the playstyle:
"Playing against a guy like him, who gets every single ball back, is always very challenging. There is some sort of concentration levels you have to reach to perform to your best. These kinds of matches always teach me things that I can expose for next time.
Tsitsipas will face
Reilly Opelka next and they have played only once so far. It was in Cincinnati last year when Opelka retired at the end of the first set.
