Australia’s tennis star Nick Kyrgios has revealed that he is looking forward to playing at the Australian Open 2025. The 29-year-old was once regarded as the most talented Australian player in men’s tennis in the singles category, especially when he played in the final at Wimbledon two years back.
However, not much has gone right since that final, where he lost to Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic with a score of 4–6, 6–3, 6–4, 7–6. After that, Kyrgios played in the US Open, where he was knocked out after losing in the quarterfinal to Russia’s Karen Khachanov with a score of 7-5, 4-6, 7-5, 6-7, 6-4. Following that, the former world number 13 suffered a serious injury which forced him to stay out of action for nearly two years.
During that time, Kyrgios missed as many as eight Grand Slams. However, the good news for his fans is that the one-time Grand Slam runner-up is looking forward to playing in the Australian Open this year. He announced the development on his Instagram live where he expressed optimism to play some events prior to going to Melbourne to feature in the first Grand Slam of the next year.
The Australian Open marks the beginning of the Grand Slam season in a calendar year. The tournament is played in Melbourne in the month of January and February every year. Kyrgios does not have a great record while playing in the home Grand Slam. His best appearance in that competition came in the 2015 edition, where he was knocked out after losing in the quarterfinal to the former world number one Britain’s Andy Murray in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 7-6, 6-3. His last appearance in the competition was back in 2022, when he was knocked out after losing in the second round to current world number five Russia’s Daniil Medvedev with a score of 7-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.
