Nick Kyrgios has been one of the main players to hold the opinion that whilst Jannik Sinner has been cleared that he should be banned despite bearing 'no fault' or 'negligence'.
Or so he thought as Kyrgios didn't hide his happiness as Jannik Sinner's doping ordeal isn't yet over. WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) have lodged an appeal to CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) aiming to prove that he should face some form of suspension.
Ever since the ITIA announced that he had tested positive twice in March but avoided a ban, the 2022 Wimbledon finalist has been critical about the way the case has been handled and that Sinner should have been suspended whilst also saying that it is not personal. This is despite also making a comment about his ex-girlfriend and the current partner of Sinner, Anna Kalinskaya calling her a 'second serve'.
This was widely condemned in the tennis community and was swiftly deleted by Kyrgios. But he couldn't hold back his glee on social media about the news. "Hahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahah ahahahahahaha god I hope the people running this thing don't care that he is number 1 and has money," Kyrgios wrote in the comment section of a Eurosport post. He also wrote on his story. "Hahaha maybe not so innocent after all eh?"
"The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) confirms that on Thursday 26 September, it lodged an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in the case of Italian tennis player, Jannik Sinner, who was found by an independent tribunal of the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) to bear no fault or negligence having twice tested positive for clostebol, a prohibited substance, in March 2024. It is WADA’s view that the finding of 'no fault or negligence' was not correct under the applicable rules. WADA is seeking a period of ineligibility of between one and two years," WADA's statement read on Saturday.
