Nick Kyrgios predicts Djokovic's triumph at Wimbledon

Australia’s tennis star Nick Kyrgios has backed world number two Novak Djokovic to win the Wimbledon 2024 title. The third Grand Slam is set to conclude on Sunday with the grand finale in the men’s singles category, which will be a rematch of last year’s final.

Serbia’s Djokovic will face defending champion Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in the final on Sunday. The 37-year-old, who is often regarded as the greatest player in the history of men’s tennis in the singles category in the Open era, having won as many as 24 Grand Slam titles, cemented his spot in the grand finale after beating Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in straight sets with a score of 6-4, 7-6, 6-4.

On the other hand, Alcaraz defeated Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the semifinal with a score of 6-7, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. Australia’s tennis star Kyrgios, currently working as a pundit at Wimbledon while spending time on the sidelines to regain fitness, was recently quoted in a report where he backed Djokovic to claim the ultimate prize.

The former world number 13 believes that Alcaraz is ‘cursed’ and that the Belgrade-born star can take advantage of that. “As I said, I predicted it was going to be a four-to-five-set win for Alcaraz and I’m right again! He’s definitely got the curse and the gift,” he said. “He’s got so much talent he almost has so many options at any given time.”

The contest will be a fascinating one as Alcaraz will start as a favourite as he recently won the French Open and is playing against an opponent whom he defeated 12 months ago at the same stage in a five-set thriller with a score of 1–6, 7–6(8–6), 6–1, 3–6, 6–4. On the other hand, Djokovic will be eager to take revenge for last year’s defeat. Still, it will be interesting to see whether he has what it takes, especially after going to the final in a competition just weeks after knee surgery.
