Rafael Nadal will face Bjorn Borg's son Leo Borg in the opening round of the 2024 Bastad Open (Nordea Open) on Monday July 15. It will be the first match for the Spaniard since his first-round exit at the 2024 French Open against Alexander Zverev.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion ironically was training with Leo Borg mere hours before they were drawn together with the duo being wildcard entries. The latter has not made the strides perhaps thought thus far with clamour due to his family name.
He sits inside the top 500 and has yet to kick on. Albeit at only 21-years-old, he has time. But with the draw ceremony taking place in person, it as ever gives the best reactions. A fan shared a clip on X where the officials can be seen revealing the tie in front of the media with the trophy next to them.
One in which Nadal won earlier on in his career to kick start his clay court dominance. There were audible gasps when it was pulled out. Nadal since first appearing at Bastad years ago has since become the clay GOAT and has a habit at least this year during his perceived last year gone back to tournaments where he has had success.
With his ultimate goal of the Olympic Games set up, he will now head back to Sweden and also teams with Casper Ruud in a dream pairing.
