Japan’s tennis star Kei Nishikori has admitted that he would've had to go through a similar surgery to what Britain’s Andy Murray went through had he continued playing with a hip injury.
The 33-year-old has had some injuries in the past where he ended up taking a break to ensure that his recovery stay on course.
Nishikori was quoted in a report where he stated that his hip was not as bad as Murray's or else he would’ve needed a similar procedure.
“My hip was not too bad,” he said. “Not like Andy. We shaved some bone & I had a bit of a tear in the labrum. If I kept playing without the surgery, I may have had to do something like Andy did.”
Murray had his own share of injuries to deal with which also led him to retire from tennis in 2019.
However, the former world number one miraculously returned to professional tennis after a while and is still competing at the highest level.
Nishikori has had an impressive career in the major events, where he played at least in the quarterfinal of every Grand Slam.
The highlight of his career reaching the final of the US Open back in 2014 where he was defeated by Croatia’s Marin Cilic in straight sets with a score of 6–3, 6–3, 6–3.
Nishikori won a bronze medal in the 2016 Olympics where he came second-best in the final of the event after losing to Murray.
