Serbia’s legendary tennis player
Novak Djokovic has revealed
that he has no anger about not being able to participate in the
US Open last
year.
The 36-year-old was not allowed to participate in the fourth
and final Grand Slam of the year in 2022 because of anti-Covid-19 vaccine stance.
Djokovic, while talking to the media, stated that he does
not have any regrets about not being able to take part in the mega-event last
year.
"No, there was no anger,” he said. It was last year
during the Open that I felt it's a pity that I'm not there. I felt sad for not
being able to participate. But this year, I mean, is this year. I don't think
about what happened in the last year or last couple of years. Just focusing my
attention to this year's tournament.”
Djokovic is coming on the back of securing a big win in the
Cincinnati Open (Western & Southern Open) where he defeated the current world
number one Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in the final with a score of 5-7, 7-6, 7-6.
The US Open is set to begin on Monday where players from all
over the world will participate to showcase their talent.
The current world number two will be hoping to continue his
winning run going in New York where he has a good record after winning the title
three times.
However, the last victory for the Belgrade-born while
playing at the Flashing Medows came five years back in 2018 when he defeated
Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro in the final in straight sets with a score of
6–3, 7–6(7–4), 6–3.
Djokovic remains the most successful player in the history
of men’s singles tennis in the Open era, having won 23 Grand Slam titles. However,
in the list of career titles, he is sitting in the third spot with 95 accolades
to his name.
