Andy Murray lamented his shocking loss to Taro Daniel by explaining he was simply not good enough today and that's why he lost.
Andy Murray started off 2022 in pretty decent shape scoring quite a few notable wins. It made him very optimistic about his
Australian Open outing but it was shockingly cut short by qualifier Taro Daniel who was never considered a very good hard court player. The Japanese player has had a brilliant start to the year of his own and he proved against Murray that his level is not a fluke.
After the loss, Murray explained how dissapointed he was:
“I mean, yeah. But not if I do what I did tonight too often this
season. This is a really important year for me for a number of reasons
and I want to perform well in the big events. For me, tonight is not
good enough in that respect. Making second rounds of Slams is not something I find particularly
motivating. I want to be doing better than that. It depends on how I get
on this year results wise and how I perform in the big events.”
He reiterated his frustration once more saying:
“I’m really, really disappointed. Very frustrated. A tough loss for me that’s for sure. I felt alright physically. I pulled up pretty well [after the
Basilashvili match] so I was pleased from that perspective. I just made
way too many errors on the court.”
Murray will make his way towards Europe next where he will try and do some damage on the indoor circuit. Murray most likely won't break into the top 100 after this even which means he will need to receive wild cards if he hopes to avoid qualifications.
