Daniil Medvedev expectedly played against the crowd in Melbourne during his clash with Nick Kyrgios and he did not hold back on slamming them for it.
Medvedev, known for his open interactions with the crowd during matches, does not shy away from speaking his mind on certain topics. He also doesn't shy away from slamming crowds when he feels they did too much.
The Russian does not mind playing against the crowd but as anyone he too has his limits. In an interview with Eurosport following his match he let them know it:
“It’s a little bit disappointing. I guess it’s normal that everyone experiences it, especially when you play a home favourite and not just any home favourite, but Nick. A few moments on my serve, where he managed to make some good returns, and then we have a breakpoint [on] second serve and people are cheering like you’ve already made a double-fault."
Then he dropped a comment which will certainly elicit a few booes in the next few match as well:
“That’s just disappointing. It’s not everybody who’s doing it, but those who are doing it probably have a low IQ.”
There was a feisty interaction with the fans during the on-court interview as well as he was booed which prompted him to say:
“Sorry I can’t hear you. Guys I can’t hear him, please show some respect for Jim Courier, he won here guys. Let him speak guys. If you respect somebody, at least respect Jim Courier. I cannot hear him guys.”
Ultimately things settled and Medvedev finished the interview but he should not expect a lot of support in the next few rounds after these interactions.
