Rennae
Stubbs praised
Andy Murray for his call to increase female coaches in tennis.
The former
coach commended the British tennis player for expressing support for greater
female representation among coaches in both the ATP and WTA tours.
Former
world No. 1 Andy Murray, highlighted the noticeable lack of women working as
coaches in the professional tour and expressed his hope for positive change in
this regard.
"It's
really important. It's something I've found surprising on both tours, but
particularly on the women's tour. How few female coaches there are. It's time
WTA had an initiative to help. It's something that needs to
change," said Murray.
Rennae
Stubbs shared her thoughts on Andy Murray's remarks and highlighted the 3-time
Grand Slam champion's words on Twitter. She expressed support and appreciation
for Murray's stance on increasing the presence of female coaches in
professional tennis.
"And
btw not many are as great as Andy when it comes to fighting for equality in
this world! Love the guy."
“It's hard
when the actual players don’t take the leap to hire great female coaches."
Stubbs, who
previously worked with former world No. 1 Karolina Pliskova, also held agents
responsible for the decisions they make.
"Also
may I add, agents are also the ones that don’t take the leap either and all too
often agents are the ones making those decisions," sheadded.
Andy Murray
worked with two female coaches, his mother Judy Murray, who taught him tennis
at the beginning of his career, and former world No. 1
Amelie Mauresmo. The
British player partnered with the Frenchwoman after parting ways with Ivan
Lendl and expressed regret for not winning a major title with her.
"It's
one of my regrets that I didn't win a Grand Slam when I was working with her -
for a lot of people that was considered a failure. I feel that she was harshly
judged by a lot of people, purely because she was a woman," he said.
