Anybody remotely familiar with tennis knows who Roger Federer is. Those who don't still have heard of Roger Federer. The importance of that man to tennis is very hard to describe in a few sentences. It's probably impossible even with an essay but the Swiss maestro turns 40 today.
A man responsible for popularizing the sport of tennis at a time where it was slowly starting to die out has entered the 5th decade of his life. That makes the fact that he is still playing at a very high level even more impressive. Current world number one Novak Djokovic would agree.
In a video posted by ATP Tour on Twitter Djokovic said:
"Hey Roger, Happy 40th Birthday, 40th wow, what a milestone. You still keep on inspiring and thriving on the court. Inspiring all of us. It's been a huge honour to share the tennis court and tennis circuit with you. Hopefully, you can still keep on playing and the sport needs you."
Alongside Djokovic, the video features Kei Nishikori who called Federer his idol as well as Felix Auger-Aliassime. Federer is currently recovering from a knee injury he sustained at Wimbledon and he should probably make his return at the US Open. Nothing is confirmed as of now but fans are hopeful to see Federer on the court at Flushing Meadows.
