Novak Djokovic has the opportunity to add another record to his career if he becomes the champion of the 2023 ATP Finals.
The Serbian tennis player has accustomed fans to constantly breaking records, and just a week ago, he surpassed the milestone of 40 Masters 1000 titles, making him the player with the most titles in this category.
As the world No. 1, he is the top contender to win the title in Turin, and if he puts on a performance similar to last year, he could become the player who has received the highest prize money in a single tournament. The 24-times Grand Slam champion was the undefeated champion last year, defeating Casper Ruud in the final with a score of 7-5, 6-3.
For the 2023 ATP Finals, the organizers have confirmed a record prize money for the champion, which, if achieved undefeated, could reach the historic sum of $4,801,500. Djokovic has already accumulated $11,524,597 this year with his three Grand Slam victories, making him the annual leader. Additionally, he holds the record for combined singles and doubles prize money with $176,231,562, well above Rafael Nadal ($134,640,719) and Roger Federer ($130,594,339).
The challenge will be no less as he will have to face the best players of the year. In his group, he is paired with Jannik Sinner (4th), Stefanos Tsitsipas (6th), and Holger Rune (8th). His first match will be against Rune on Sunday, with a head-to-head record of 2-2, and considering only indoor hardcourt, it is 1-1. Both encounters took place in Paris Bercy, where Rune won the 2022 final. However, Djokovic recently defeated the Dane in the quarterfinals of the tournament just a week ago with a score of 7-5, 6-7, 6-4 in an exciting match.
