Novak Djokovic is zooming in on an Olympic Games medal with the top seed continuing to be barely troubled as he took down Dominik Koepfer to reach the Quarter-Finals in Paris.
Djokovic sealed the win in little time at all clinching a 7-5, 6-3 win and is the first man to reach four Quarter-Finals in what will likely be his final Olympic Games.
But it isn’t about that for the 24-time Grand Slam champion. Completing accolades is all well and good but he has yet to claim an Olympic gold medal and he will hope to make that right. Albeit his biggest test likely comes next.
He will face Stefanos Tsitsipas tomorrow who saw off Sebastian Baez earlier today and was first through to the latter stages. It will be a medal match at least for Djokovic if he wins through. That is all on Thursday for Djokovic.
While he never went behind in the opening set, it was more of a toil lasting little under an hour. He went 3-1 up in the clash. But Koepfer made it interesting by keeping pace. Djokovic’s pressure play told though as he sealed it 7-5 with a late break.
The second set was a bit more academic. He went 4-1 up and didn’t take the foot off the gas as he sealed a 6-3 set win. There was no break points off his serve as he eased to victory in the end.
The gold medal mission continues for Nole. But what test will Tsitsipas pose?
