Novak Djokovic Australian Open 2021
Novak Djokovic will compete for the ninth Australian Open crown against Daniil Medvedev on Sunday, hoping to reduce the deficit to Nadal and Federer in the GOAT race.
Alongside many records set in Melbourne, Djokovic is celebrating the 600th week in the top-3, becoming the third player to achieve that since 1973 after Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal! Novak entered the top-3 after Wimbledon 2007 at 20, becoming Nadal's and Federer's main rival and claiming his first Major title at the Australian Open half a year later.
Since October 2009, Novak had spent seven and a half years without leaving the top-3 group, turning into the most consistent player on the Tour and joining Federer and Nadal in the battle for the greatest player of all time. Novak left the top-3 company after Roland Garros 2017, struggling with an elbow injury and dropping out from the top-20 in the following 12 months.
Returning to his best in 2018, Djokovic returned to the elite group after the US Open and has stayed there ever since to earn a massive record that the upcoming stars will hardly match.
Most weeks in the top-3:
750 - Roger Federer
631 - Rafael Nadal
600 - Novak Djokovic
592 - Jimmy Connors
499 - Ivan Lendl
