Novak Djokovic won't finish as the top earner in 2022 after all as Carlos Alcaraz received a sizeable bonus from the ATP.
The bonus prize money is awarded each year at the end of it and is mainly determined by how many ATP events like Masters players play and how well they do. Alcaraz won two of them (Miami, Madrid) which earned him quite a bit of bonus money compared to Djokovic who missed a lot of them.
The bonus money is enough for the Spaniard to overtake the Serbian in total prize money and give him over 10 million for the year. By doing that, Alcaraz became only the 5th player ever to win over 10 million in prize money.
Before him we saw Federer, Djokovic, Nadal and Murray do that but prize money is slowly increasing so more players are going to follow suit in the future. Alcaraz now has 10.1 million earned compared to Djokovic who has 9.9 million earned.
