The 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic continues to embody the competitive spirit that has defined him. At 37 years old, retirement isn’t on his mind as he prepares for a new season, aiming to add more trophies to his collection.

After a year without any majors or ATP titles, Djokovic remains determined to claim his 25th Grand Slam. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, he secured the coveted gold medal, the only title missing from his career, but this hasn’t dampened his motivation.

Djokovic hints at more seasons ahead

Ahead of the new season, Djokovic has hired Andy Murray as his new coach, bringing his former rival into his team for the Australian Open. This week, Djokovic traveled to Brisbane for his first tournament of the year at an ATP 250 event. "I'm looking for a good start to the season, I'm looking for more consistency across all the tournaments,” he stated.

"I'm looking to play more tournaments this year than I played last season, so hopefully also my level is going to go up," added Djokovic, who turns 38 in May. “Hopefully I will win a few more tournaments and my ranking will go up to where it should be."

“The way I'm feeling today, I still think that I can go strong for years to come," the world No. 7 said. "But how long I'm going to feel motivated to keep going is unpredictable. I still love this sport and I still love competing."

Djokovic will make his singles debut on Monday against local player Rinky Hijikata and will also participate in doubles, partnering with Nick Kyrgios, who is making a comeback after a two-year injury absence.
