Since Novak Djokovic won the Roland Garros the 'GOAT' question was raised once more and now the Serbian finally spoke about it.
When Novak Djokovic lifted his 19th Grand Slam trophy a week ago many once again started asking the 'GOAT' question. It's a polarizing question and everybody has an opinion on it with the likes of Murray, Laver and Serena Williams speaking on it. Now Djokovic gave his thoughts as well. He said:
"I understand that the people enjoy the G.O.A.T. debate and that they want to get something out of us on that topic. I do not know what Rafa and Roger say, but I do not want to speculate too much about what are the deciding factors and what are not. I leave that to others, to tennis experts and analysts, fans as well. For me, winning Slams represents a huge satisfaction and motivation, those are the biggest tournaments.”
Djokovic was vague on the topic but he cares about it much more than he would admit. It fuels him as he explained later:
“Writing history in the tennis books has always inspired me and pushed me forward. It is phenomenal what I have been able to do, to win all Slams and Masters tournaments at least twice. It is a fact that makes me very happy."
Djokovic once more reiterated his stance of not giving a take on the debate but he also underlined his ambition of continuing to win Slams as they count the most along with the record of spending the most weeks as No. 1 which he called 'historic':
"I do not feel that I should give my take on the debate: I am still active and I am still creating my own authentic path. I will keep on striving to win Slams, because that is something that probably counts the most, along with the historic No 1 record.”
