Novak Djokovic won his 2nd
Roland Garros by coming back from 0-2 in sets against
Stefanos Tsitsipas for the final score of 6-7(6) 2-6 6-3 6-2 6-4.
The opening set was a very interesting one as Tstisipas came out really focused hitting his serve at a very high rate. That allowed him to keep Djokovic away at a safe distance. At 5-5, the Serbian broke through to take a 6-5 lead but then collapsed unexpectedly allowing a tiebreak. In it, he fell behind 0-4, rallied to make it 6-5 having a set point but ultimately lost it 6-8.
The 2nd set was a direct consequence of the first. Tsitsipas was full of confidence after escaping with the first while Djokovic rushed committing many errors. He ended the 2nd set with then as Tsitsipas cruised to a 6-2 finish. In the 3rd set, Djokovic stepped up considerably.
Tsitispas rode his confidence a bit too high and several mistakes proved costly. Djokovic was able to break him midway through the set and he never looked back. 6-3 was the finish as Djokovic limited his errors to only 4. Before the start of the 4th set, Tsitsipas took a MTO due to some back stiffness.
After play resumed Djokovic quickly asserted himself as the better player jumping out to a 4-0 lead. He was cleaning lines left and right while Tsitsipas could not handle his pressure on his 2nd serve and Djokovic forced a decider with a 6-2 4th set win.
In the deciding set, it was Djokovic who displayed better tennis and a higher level. Tsitsipas somehow saved break points early but Djokovic quickly took control of the set taking a lead which he maintained until the end of the match. This is Djokovic's 2nd
French Open trophy and 19th Grand Slam overall.
