Novak
Djokovic was seen in an Instagram video dancing as he prepares for his debut at
the
Cincinnati Open.
The 23-time
Grand Slam champion will return to compete on the ATP tour this week after his
defeat in the Wimbledon final against Carlos Alcaraz in the middle of July.
Djokovic
decided not to participate in the Canadian Open due to muscle fatigue and will
return this week in Cincinnati to pursue a new title. The Serbian player enters
the tournament as the second seed, a competition he hasn't participated in
since 2020, the year in which he clinched the championship by defeating Milos
Raonic in the final.
He recently
shared a video on his Instagram account while dancing during practice in
Cincinnati, showcasing his new bearded look, which garnered attention and
discussions on social media.
“Novak
looking very distraught over his Wimbledon loss.”
Djokovic
boasts a 40-12 record in Cincinnati, clinching the title twice (2018, 2020) and
finishing as the runner-up in five finals (08’, 09’, 11’, 12’, 15’), with three
of those finals against Roger Federer and two against Andy Murray.
In 2023,
the Serbian ace has maintained an impressive record of 33 victories and only
five defeats, securing three titles, including Adelaide, the Australian Open,
and Roland Garros.
With a
first-round exemption, Djokovic is set to kick off his Cincinnati campaign in
the second round against the winner of the match between Alejandro Davidovich
and Tomás Etcheverry. As the World No. 2, he finds himself in the bottom half
of the draw, sharing his section with Jannik Sinner, Holger Rune, and Daniil
Medvedev.
The early
exit of World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz at the Canadian Open opens up an opportunity
for Djokovic to potentially ascend to the top ranking by the end of the week in
Cincinnati. To achieve this, Djokovic must clinch the title and hope that
Alcaraz does not reach the final of the tournament.
