"The numbers say Djokovic is probably already the greatest" admits Matteo Berrettini

Matteo Berrettini admitted that strictly by the numbers Novak Djokovic is probably already the greatest.

Talks about the greatest athlete to ever play a sport will never go away and tennis is no different. Many players gave their opinions about it and Matteo Berrettini was the latest when asked during the US Open. He explained his opinions on the matter saying:

“The numbers say [Djokovic] probably already is [the greatest]. But beyond the records, which are of little interest to me, there are emotions. Certainly ‘Nole’ is up there among the great ones."

Berrettini further clarified he always backed Federer:

“I have never hidden that I cheered for [Roger] Federer: I did it as a kid, I do it today. But the beauty of Djokovic, Federer and [Rafael] Nadal is that they are very different, they have enormous qualities among which it is difficult to choose."

For Berrettini watching all of them play is a privilege and he simply wants to enjoy it while it lasts:

“It is obvious that we are witnessing Roger’s sunset due to age limits, but let’s enjoy these three extraordinary champions while they are there.”

Berrettini also said he spoke with John McEnroe and that the American gave him some advice ahead of the US Open.
