Angelique Kerber defeated Anhelina Kalinina in straight sets at the
US Open and after the amtch she spoke about it.
It was a sweet victory for Kerber over Kalinina as the Ukraninian defeated the German at this year's French Open. Kalinina is a very strong clay player but the win over Kerber came as a schock to many. Kerber came out very aggresive which was part of her preparation:
"Yeah, I was really feeling -- I mean, I played good today I
think. I knew it's always a tough opponent. I lost against her in Paris
this year, so I was prepared what to expect. Yeah, I was focusing from the first point. I think that I was really
aggressive today, and I think that was the key for me, yeah, for the
match today."
Kalinina found the aggressive nature of Kerber hard to deal with especially on the very fast courts of New York. For Kerber, it's only getting tougher as she will face Sloane Stephens next. Both of them lifted trophies here before so on the match she said:
"You know, I know what to expect against Sloane. We played so
many matches. She's always a tricky opponent. She can play everything. I
know that here, especially here, she is always playing her best tennis."
She further said:
"I have to be ready from the first point. I think that I have to play
like today, being aggressive, focusing on my game. I'm really looking
forward and I'm excited to play against her again."
