Osaka cruises past Golubic at Olympics

Naomi Osaka cruised past Viktorija Golubic to reach the Olympic Games 3rd round. 6-3 6-2.

The Japanese player left no doubt about the winner of this match as she cruised past Golubic in two. Osaka came out focused against a player who has been one of the best performing in the past two months. She needed to do that if she wanted to avoid a potential upset and she did.

Osaka controlled the match from the start not allowing Golubic a chance especially on her serve. Golubic was able to hang on early and it was only late in the first set that Osaka found a breakthrough. The Swiss player played a solid much but her serve failed her in the crucial moment.

Things fell apart in the 3rd set as Osaka was able to jump out to an early 4-0 lead which she then maintained for the rest of the match. She closed it out with 6-2 in the set. A great overall performance with Osaka not facing a single break point.
