Rafael Nadal won't play at the
French Open but unlike many,
Patrick McEnroe doesn't think that it means that the draw is wide open believing only several players could win it.
Some have suggested that the French Open draw is wide open because Rafael Nadal is not playing but Patrick McEnroe doesn't see it that way. Sure, some might say that the list of players that could technically win it is long but how likely is that going to happen? Anybody ranked in the top 10 could technically win it but the reality is a bit different. There is a reason why the last few winners are Djokovic and Nadal.
The last player not named Djokovic or Nadal to win the event was Stan Wawrinka in 2015. That's why Patrick McEnroe reacted to the claim with a pretty straightforward 'Nope'. He wrote on Twitter:
"I understand that with @RafaelNadal out of this year's French Open, it will have a much different feel. But "wide open"???? Nope."
