Laver Cup and the American who enjoyed a breakthrough on North American hard courts can't wait.
It has been a spectacular summer for Reilly Opelka as the American showcased his tennis skill that is far more than just his tremendous serve. Opelka reached his maiden ATP 1000 final in Toronto and continued to play well during the North American hard-court swing. His form impressed many and earned him a Laver Cup selection (his 1st).
Explaning what changed in his mindset furing his stellar run of form he said:
“I think it was great example of using [an] optimistic mindset as much as possible- I think it can extend some
weeks, even if it’s just one tournament per year maybe two a year. I mean, look what this does for my ranking. That’s all it takes.”
Opelka surged on the ATP ranking making his top 20 debut after the US Open. The towering American is now ranked 19th and that ranking will surely increase further if he keeps his stellar form going. On playing at the Laver Cup he said:
“I’m very excited to be representing Team World at the Laver Cup in Boston. Playing in the US in an arena like TD Garden, with John McEnroe as our captain, is going to be a surreal experience. I can’t wait.”
